Transport in Delhi City

Delhi has one of the most advanced transportation systems in India. With the underground Metro in full operation, travelling around the city has become very convenient. The Delhi Metro is one of the most modernised systems in the country. It is rapidly expanding to all locations in the state.

Public transport systems in Delhi are very well developed. The state runs its bus service called Delhi Transport Corporation bus system which has an admirable frequency of buses to different parts of the city. Besides the Metro and bus system, the place has millions of taxis, auto rikshas and cycle rikshas. So, you are never going to face any problem reaching different places in the capital city of India.

Delhi has 11.2 million registered vehicles, which is slated to be the highest in the world. Despite the highly efficiency public transport system, traffic is still a frightening woe in Delhi because of the huge number of vehicles.

Rail connectivity to and from Delhi is excellent. The place is served by numerous stations, the main among them being Hazrat Nizamuddin. Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is the main airport in Delhi and serves both international and domestic connections.

Plans are on to increase travel convenience in the state. By 2020, the government plans to increase metro network to cover 413 kilometres, 50 kilometres in light rail and another 50 kilometres in monorail. Additionally, 292 kilometres of BRT is also in the planning stage.
