St. Stephen's Church Tour

St. Stephen’s Church Delhi is on a wide, bustling road full of activities and is a substantial building which was built in 1862, by Anglican missionaries. The St. Stephen’s Church, Delhi is influenced by the famous Romanesque architecture apart from its omate walls along with ceilings which has the unique feature along with stained glass window and the style is exclusive in Delhi. The baroque style church has arched windows and allows the sunlight to brighten the interiors. Also, the interiors are well managed with motifs, pictures, carvings along with beautiful furniture and is made of series of fine plasters from arcade on either side with the lined columns made of sandstone.

The Motto of the church is “In Love Serve one Another” and the church has given great contribution in academics with the courses offered being highly regarded and range from M.B.B.S to various diplomas and degrees along with the St. Stephen’s College which is a part of Delhi University. Apart from the Church services the St. Stephen’s has done great contribution in medical field by offering one of the oldest and largest private hospitals in Delhi with capacity of about 600 beds and also provides training to young nurses and doctors thus is recognised by Medical Council of India.

The St. Stephen's Church is a second oldest church of the Delhi city. It was built in 1862 by Anglican missionaries and DPW Engineers. St. Stephen's College and St. Stephen's Private Hospital are also located near of this church. This Church architecture style is Gothic and Romanesque.

Last 160 years the Church stood in well condition. This church is dedicated to St. Stephen who was killed in 1857 revolt in Delhi city. He was first Christian martyrs saint in India. Red colour of the Church is symbolic blood of the St. Stephen.
