St. James Church (Skinner's Church) Tour, Delhi

St. James Church is known as the oldest Church in Delhi and is under the Church of North India Diocese of Delhi. The Church has also been visited by the Viceroy of India and is near the Gurudwara Rakab Ganj. The Church houses several tombs which also have the remains of the British Commissioner of Delhi along with having a memorial in the name of the victims of 1857 revolt. The Church boasts of great relics and such as original European Glass-tainted windows depicting crucifixion with the ascension of Christ and reunification with also some of the paintings which are worthy as it is the original work such as The Prodigal son along with some gifted items.

The Church has many beautiful shops in the vicinity and many of them are made way back in decades with the old age Ritz theatre which is the reminder of the colonial past. The Delhi’s oldest post office is located nearby and the Church is a lively picture of warmth and serenity with the surrounding areas look beautiful and intimate and also the cemetery of Skinner with his fourteen wives are buried and they rest in peace here along with the children.

St. James' Church (Skinner's Church) is the oldest church in New Delhi which was built in 1836 by Colonel James Skinner. It is located near of ISBT bus station karmiri gate. This church started to built from 1826 and completed to worship to general public in 1936. Total expenditure to build complete was 95,000 Rupees. Its inauguration wold by bishop of Calcutta Daniel Wilson on 21 November 1836. This church was also damaged during 1857 revolt. Church compound also has several graves which includes James Skinner, William Fraser and many British India company army men who died during 1857 revolt.
