Salimgarh Fort was built on an island of River Yamuna by Islam Shah Suri and he was the son of renowned Sher Shah Suri. In 1622 A.D., Jahangir constructed a bridge and connected the fort to the mainland but the bridge was removed later by Britsihersa nd they made railway line through it. It also served as the state prison during Aurangzeb’s rule and British also continued it as a prison with the leaders of the Indian National Army were imprisoned in 1945 and now the memorial was developed inside the fort. The fort has a triangular plan and its thick walls are built in rubble masonry.
