Najafgarh Drain Bird Sanctuary Tour, Delhi

The Najafgarh Drain bird Sanctuary is composed of the wetland ecosystem and wildlife habitat on several kilometres of the Najafgarh lake, The National Capital Territory of Delhi ( NCT) of this water-way. The winter months are the best and the continuation of Sahibi river along with flocks of wintering waterbirds. The wetland ecosystem and wildlife habitat on several kilometres of somewhat less polluted Najafgarh drain in rural Delhi before entering main city. The area has been recognized as a bird sanctuary for Delhi. It can be recognized as an important wildlife after a local naturalist studied the area during 1986 to 1989.

The Najafgarh Wildlife Sanctuary and the water is used for irrigation and it also supports wide range of aquatic fauna and flora including birds, fishes etc. The water quality of Najafgarh drain is used for drinking purpose by BSF colonies. The Najafgarh drain up-to Chhawla supports wide range of birds and animals which supports many bird watchers along with bird counters but the poachers also take much of the toll here. The poachers are difficult to get checked here still the Government try to give back the most out of it through conservation of resources and thus replenishing the ecosystem.

Najafgarh drain bird sanctuary is very famous for variety of the beautiful birds. Around the Najafgarh drain (Jheel) also has several trees which make it dense forest. In 2008 Delhi Government also planted approx 12000 trees which make this area comfortable to living to birds. Now this is a protected area to birds. Najafgarh drain or Nala or Lake or Jheel is good location to living birds. There are several people come to shot these birds annual which includes foreign diplomatic and local people. Government should care these birds with attention. So, that these birds can safe and secure.
