Lodhi Garden, New Delhi

Lodhi Garden is a city park situated in New Delhi and is spread over 90 acres with Mohammad Shah’s tomb or the Tomb of Shikander Lodhi and is the architectural work of the 15th Century by Lodhis with the garden situated between Khan Market and Safdarjung’s Tomb on Lodhi Road and is considered with the hot spot for morning walks for the Delhites. The Lodhi Garden is located beside the India International Centre which is just 3 Kilometre away from the Humayun’s Tomb. The Lodhi garden houses the tomb of Sayyid and Lodhi rulers too and was redesigned by JA Stein and Garrett Eckbo in the year 1968 and thus it is found into the present shape.

The Shisha Gumbad is also one of the architectural example of combination of Hindu and Islamic style of architecture while the architecture of the garden is the Bara Gumbad and it consists of a large rubble constructed dome with a gateway attached to three domed masjid or mosque. There is also watercourse which connects the Yamuna river to the Tomb of Sikander Lodhi. The tomb still has the battlements enclosing it and once the person enters the Lodhi garden he finds the history in the air.

Lodi Garden is spread in 90 acres area land which has many Lodi dynasty emperors' tombs which includes Sikandar Lodi, Bara Gumbad, Shisha Gumbad and Mohammed Shah. These tombs were built in 15th centaury. These emperors were Afghan dynasty related. This garden's nearest landmarks are Safdarjung's Tomb, Khan Market and Jwahar Lal Nehru Stadium. These tombs and garden are maintaining by Archaeological Survey of India.
