Fatehpur Sikri Fort

Fatehpur Sikri is one of the magnificent and fortified ancient city built by Akbar which is 40 Km West of Agra and was abandoned by Akbar after there was some turmoil in Punjab. With the blessings of Sufi Saint Shaikh Salim Chishti, there was birth of the legal heir to the Mughal throne and the Mughal Emperor built his new capital here. It also includes a stunning mosque which is still in use today and all the three palaces which were one for each of his favorite wives one being a Hindu and the two other as Muslim and Christian was build here.

The city has also an Indo-Islamic masterpiece erected in an area which supposedly has water shortage but the Shukri or the lake of water fulfilled the need of water but after the Akbar’s death the place was not visited by Mughals. The architecture is very much dynastic and the Fatehpuri Sikri was modeled on Timurid forms and styles with massively built in redstone. Apart from this the other important buildings in this city which was both religious and secular are Buland darwaza and Jama Masjid along with Tomb of Salim Chishti making it worth a place to visit.

Fatehpur Sikri is a tourist place; it is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was founded by Mughal emperor Akbar in 1569. It was Mughal empire capital from 1571 to 1585. Sikri Palace: This was constructed by Akbar in 1969. Palace is covered in 6 kilo metres area. This complex has Panch Mahal.

Buland Darwaza: This was constructed by Akbar in 1601 on memory of the victory of Gujarat. Gate height is 54 meters from ground level.

Jama Masjid, Fatehpur Sikri: It is a World Heritage Site which was built by emperor Akbar in 1571. This complex has Buland Darwaza and Tomb of Salim Chishti.
