Chandni Chowk

Chandni Chowk is where you find the real flavour and vibrancy of the original Delhi devoid of the modern day sophistication. Nestled between Red Fort and Fatehpuri Masjid in the historic Shajahanabad, Chandni Chowk is one of the busiest and the largest marketplaces in India. The areas surrounding the main market street consist of narrow residential lanes.

Chandni Chowk was designed in the 17th century by Jahan Ara, Emporer Shahjahan’s daughter. Canals were the special features of this area. The beautiful moonlight reflected from the waters in these canals gave the place its name. The place is a true melting pot for different cultures and religions.

Besides the main market, Chandni Chowk has several places of worship such as Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir, Naya Mandir, Gauri Shankar Temple, Christian Central Baptist Church, Sikh Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, Sunehari Masjid, Fatehpur Masjid, Jama Masjid and so many others.

If you are fond of street shopping, Chandi Chowk is the best place to be. From grand Indian sarees and dresses to mouth watering delicacies, from bookstores to electronic shops, and from leather articles to consumer goods, you get everything here.

Chandni Chowk holds the heart of Delhi. If you want to know the rich culture and heritage of India’s national capital, a visit to Chandni Chowk is must.
